Flooring example
Example: 20 ft × 12 ft room with 10% waste and flooring that covers 20 ft² per box.
20 × 12 = 240 ft²
240 × 1.10 = 264 ft² required
264 ÷ 20 = 13.2 boxes → 14 boxes
240 × 1.10 = 264 ft² required
264 ÷ 20 = 13.2 boxes → 14 boxes
Fourteen boxes provide 280 ft² of purchased coverage.
How much extra flooring should I buy?
Extra material covers cuts, damaged pieces, pattern matching and future repairs. Ten percent is a common planning input for straightforward rooms, but complex layouts can require more. Enter the waste percentage appropriate to your project.
Flooring cost planning
If you enter box coverage and price per box, the calculator estimates material cost based on the whole boxes you must purchase. Installation cost is calculated from the measured floor area using your entered rate per square foot or square metre.
